Parris Campbell injury update: Brian Schottenheimer gives positive news on Cowboys WR

An update has emerged after Dallas Cowboys receiver Parris Campbell was helped off the field at Saturday’s training camp with an apparent leg injury. According to coach Brian Schottenheimer, the injury is not believed to be anything severe.

This is good news after the way things initially looked on the field. Shortly after the injury occurred, Campbell was seen with his arm around fellow receiver Kavonte Turpin and a member of the training staff. It did not appear that he was able to put much weight on the injured leg at all.

Campbell is a new addition to the Cowboys roster after winning a Super Bowl this past season with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, he had a limited role to record just six catches for 30 yards and a touchdowns in five total appearances.

The receiver was a second-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He played the first four seasons of his career with the Indianapolis Colts, having his best season in 2022 to finish with 63 catches for 623 yards and three touchdowns.

Campbell became a free agent following that season and signed with the New York Giants. However, he was unable to replicated his numbers from the previous year, finishing with just 20 catches for 104 yards.

It’s good to hear that the injury might not keep Parris Campbell, who has struggled to stay healthy for the majority of his pro career, out for too long. Dallas was counting on Campbell to provide some extra depth as a backup receiver this season. With the news from Sunday, it’s looking like that could still be the case.

Dallas Cowboys looking for third wide receiver to emerge

Dak Prescott is going to have two pretty good wide receivers to throw to. A tandem of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens is as good as any out there, even if Pickens has yet to officially play in a Cowboys uniform. But expectations are going to be high for them this season.

What Dallas does need is a third wide receiver to emerge from the pack. Turpin is viewed as an option, potentially opening his role a little more than mainly working with special teams. The Cowboys traded for Jonathan Mingo last year too, giving the Carolina Panthers a fourth-round pick.

An interesting position battle to watch through training camp and even preseason games. Finding another weapon at wide receiver would help open the offense up even more.
