The Kansas City Chiefs will begin their quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl title this weekend, as they are set to participate in the AFC Divisional round against the Houston Texans.
The Chiefs went 15-2 in the regular season, and are now only two wins away from making it back to the Super Bowl. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one of the main reasons for the team's sustained success, and he's made a habit of raising his game in the playoffs.
If the Chiefs can defeat the Texans on Saturday, Mahomes will tie one legendary quarterback in an impressive playoff statistic.
Mahomes has a record of 15-3 in the playoffs in his career. A 16th win would tie him with Joe Montana, the legendary quarterback who won four Super Bowls for the San Francisco 49ers.
If the Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl again this season, Mahomes will have the second-most playoff wins of all time by any quarterback, trailing only Tom Brady at 35.
Mahomes is entering the playoffs after sitting out the final game of the season, but he played in the two previous weeks as the team locked up the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Kansas City will take on a Houston team that defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in convincing fashion last week in the Wild Card round. The Texans, led by second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud, are looking for their first AFC Championship appearance in franchise history.
The Chiefs have played in the last six AFC championship games, dating back to the 2018 season. With the exception of last year's game in Baltimore, the Chiefs have hosted every one of those matchups. As the conference's top seed, they'll host this year if they're able to make it.
Mahomes has proven himself to be one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, but he can remove all doubt with another legendary playoff run.
We'll see what Mahomes and the Chiefs can do as they look to eventually advance to their fifth Super Bowl appearance of the Mahomes and Andy Reid era.
Fans can watch the Chiefs take on the Texans on Saturday at 4:30 PM ET on ESPN and ABC.
