Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been the talk of the offseason for Chiefs fans and the organization as a whole. He suffered a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee on Dec. 14 in a Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Chargers last season, which ended his year.

Mahomes underwent surgery to repair these torn ligaments, and the question has been raised throughout his absence whether he would be ready to play in Week 1 of the 2026 season. There have been talks about his recovery, with head coach Andy Reid saying that he would "never bet against" Mahomes, per ESPN.

The Chiefs will open their 2026 season against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football on Sept. 14. On Thursday, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter spoke on "Get Up" about Mahomes' progression and the possibility of him being ready for that game.

"The Chiefs have said he is 'way ahead of schedule,'" Schefter said. "The feeling right now within the organization is that he is tracking to be ready for that Monday night game against Bo Nix , who's coming off his own surgery on his ankle, and the Denver Broncos in Kansas City."

This is great news for Chiefs fans, who hope to see their team bounce back in a big way this season. Last year, Kansas City missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2014 season, as it went 6-11.

In his illustrious career, Mahomes has averaged an NFL-record 285.2 passing yards per game to go along with 267 touchdowns and 85 interceptions.

With this latest update, Reid and the rest of the Chiefs' organization are hopeful that their two-time MVP quarterback will be ready to go at the beginning of the season.
