Patrick Mahomes Has Obvious Answer to Biggest NFL Competition Question

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is set to start the 2025 season as the signal-caller for Andy Reid's team. This is a role he has had since taking over in 2018. During that time, he has led the team to seven straight AFC Championship Game appearances and five trips to the Super Bowl.

Mahomes has won three of those Super Bowls. One of the two losses was last season, which has him and his teammates motivated for the 2025 season.

But, before doing that, Mahomes made some news off the field. The 29-year-old signed an agreement with Hublot and then got some watch-collecting advice from one of the best, Tom Brady.

In an interview with GQ, Mahomes talked about the partnership with Hublot: “They have a great tradition of pushing the envelope, and I feel like that's something that I've done in my career."

While that was big news for him off the field, with the season set to kick off Thursday and the Chiefs in action on Friday, fans want to hear about his action on the field. Mahomes obliged in the sit-down and was asked, "When you go into a season, do you identify teams that you see as your biggest competition?"

Mahomes gave a clear answer: "I try to keep it very small and then build bigger. And so our division's really good. Our division with the Chargers, the Broncos, and the Raiders, they've all gotten better and better these last few years, and they're young and talented and so we always focus on them first and try to win our division because that gets you into the playoffs.

"And if we do that, we know there's going to be teams like the Bills and the Bengals and the Ravens out there that we're going to have to play against, but we've got to focus on the teams in our division, and if we can handle that, we get the playoffs. We think we have as good a chance as anybody."

Last season, Mahomes passed for 3,928 yards, the first time he didn't top 4,000 yards in seven seasons as the Chiefs' starting quarterback. For his career, Mahomes has 32,352 passing yards with 245 touchdowns and 74 interceptions.

The three-time Super Bowl champion has played in 21 postseason games, passing for 5,814 yards with 46 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. He is second in postseason passing touchdowns in NFL history, only behind Tom Brady, who has 88. During his 2024 postseason run, Mahomes passed Aaron Rodgers (45), Joe Montana (45) and Brett Favre (44).
