Patrick Mahomes makes a heartwarming statement about Kansas City

“This is home for me,” Mahomes said on a Yahoo Sports Daily YouTube video. “Being in Kansas City, my kids are going to grow up here. I want to be here for the long haul and hopefully continue to win a lot more football games and hopefully some more Super Bowls.” 

Mahomes’ extension keeps him under contract with the Chiefs through the 2033 season, extending a partnership that began when Kansas City selected him with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. 

Before calling Kansas City home, Mahomes also praised the long-standing partnership he has shared with the Chiefs organization. 

“It’s just been a great partnership through and through since the beginning,” Mahomes added. “We’ve always had a plan of how we’re going to do things…we’ve had a lot of success.” 

Mahomes’ comments come during his recovery from the torn ACL and LCL that cut short his 2025 season. The quarterback also made it clear that his long-term future remains in Kansas City, both on and off the field. 

With the 2026 season approaching, Mahomes now hopes to continue that journey with the Chiefs in the city he proudly calls home. 

While Mahomes remains committed to Kansas City, his immediate focus is now on completing his recovery and returning for the new season. 

Patrick Mahomes sets a clear Week 1 goal after injury recovery

During the same Yahoo Sports Daily appearance, Mahomes discussed his recovery and his goal of returning for the season opener.

“That’s my goal,” Mahomes said. “I’ve said that since the beginning, is being ready to go Week 1. I can’t predict the future, and I know that it’s a long process.” 

Mahomes also highlighted the importance of the Week 1 matchup against the Broncos, who won the AFC West while he was recovering from injury. 

“I don’t want to miss that game because that’s the team that won the division while we were gone,” Mahomes added. “And you want to be out there and ready to go with your teammates.”

As the 2026 season gets closer, the focus will remain on Mahomes’ recovery and whether he can return to the field for Week 1.
