Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes continued his strong play against the Washington Commanders, improving the Chiefs' record to 5-3 through Week 8 of the 2025 NFL season.
Heading into Sunday's showdown with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, the two-time NFL MVP proved once again how important he is to Kansas City's success. Mahomes completed 25 of 34 passes for 299 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the 28-7 win at Arrowhead Stadium. His performance included four carries for 30 yards and a history-making touchdown connection with tight end Travis Kelce.
In the midst of the big win, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had the good vibes ruined by an injury scare when he saw Mahomes get up awkwardly after a play.
Reid took his concerns straight to his star quarterback on the sidelines, in a moment captured and shared on by the Chiefs' social media team on Tuesday.
"Did you hurt your leg?" Reid asked Mahomes.
"Nah, I was celebrating," Mahomes clarified. "I was good. You didn't see? I was doing the Chiefs Wave."

The "Chiefs Wave" is a celebration that was named by wide receiver Xavier Worthy after he started it in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens. It has since been adopted by other players like Mahomes and defensive lineman Chris Jones.
Kelce, on the other hand, ignored the "Chiefs Wave" in favor of Taylor Swift-inspired coreography for his touchdown dance on Monday.
Reid did not seem impressed by Mahomes' explanation, but he walked away breathing a sigh of relief after momentarily having to imagine going on the road to play Buffalo without Mahomes under center.
Although Mahomes is fine, Reid announced after the game that running back Isiah Pacheco and linebacker Nick Bolton suffered knee injuries against the Commanders and will be evaluated in the coming days.
Left tackle Josh Simmons missed his third straight game against Washington amid a continued personal absence, but there is a chance he could return against Buffalo.
The official injury report will be worth tracking throughout short week as the Chiefs prepare to face the Bills at Highmark Stadium at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday on CBS.
