New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is going to be without his top weapon for Week 8’s matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots downgraded wide receiver A.J. Brown on Saturday, ruling him out for the game.

Brown was originally on track to play but then missed practice on both Thursday and Friday with a knee injury to go along with his lingering right ankle sprain. He was given a questionable designation, but given he missed two straight practices his chances of playing were never strong.

The Patriots ruled him out early. Brown’s first season in New England has been crushed by multiple setbacks he cannot get over.

Brown’s injury is compounded by the fact that Romeo Doubs is also currently on injured reserve. With New England searching for answers in the wide receiver group, they are going to give a chance to a practice squad player.

The team announced Saturday that they are elevating Ryan Miller from the practice squad to the game day roster for Sunday’s matchup against the Dolphins, per Mark Daniels of MassLive.

Sunday’s game will mark Miller’s first game with the Patriots. He actually opened the season with Miami and appeared in five games for them, catching three passes for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Miller was waived two weeks ago, giving the Patriots a chance to pick him up. Now, he will get a chance to get some revenge on his former squad while filling in for Brown.

Brown will look to make his return in Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers.
