The New England Patriots went into the 2025 NFL offseason with a clear need at wide receiver. Their big addition at the position was veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs on a three-year, $63 million deal.
In the lead-up to OTAs, Diggs has been in the headlines for a video that surfaced of him on a boat partying. While there is no confirmation of what happened, the speculation immediately blew up, and there were reports about how the Patriots could get out of the Diggs contract.
Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, before a day of OTAs, shared his thoughts on Diggs amid Diggs' appearance at OTAs. Tom Carroll of WEEI radio shared McDaniels' comments on Twitter/X.
Josh McDaniels confirms Stefon Diggs is here today, and talks about why he’s not concerned with his missed time during OTAs thus far:

“It’s a voluntary part of the year, we know that. I don’t know if we’ve ever had perfect attendance…As a coach, selfishly, you’d love it when… pic.twitter.com/QOqN58LIZe
"It's a voluntary part of the year, we know that. I don't know if I've ever had perfect attendance," said McDaniels. "... He's here today, and we're excited to have an opportunity to work with the guys that are out here and available to us."
McDaniels also shared his support of the veteran receiver, saying: "So I know he's staying up on the information and the material... I'm not concerned with Stefon Diggs in that regard."
While there has been concern over Diggs missing parts of OTAs, McDaniels has faith in Diggs being caught up on the offensive material. The new-look Patriots offense needs to work out a lot of kinks in the offseason, and Diggs will be a major factor in that plan going forward.
Diggs attending OTAs after the video surfaced, and questions arose about his potential of being cut, is a great sign going forward. Skipping out on OTAs and practice, even if voluntary, could set the Patriots offense back.
But his attendance is a step in the right direction for the Patriots. Diggs is a huge part of the Patriots' and McDaniels' plans for the offense in 2025.
The Patriots sorely needed wide receiver help, and Diggs was their big offseason addition at the position. Having the faith and trust of McDaniels is a good sign for the offense, and Diggs' implementation in it.
