Patriots QB Mac Jones signs rookie contract

New England Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones has completed arguably his easiest business-related task of the summer and can now concentrate on trying to move up the depth chart as quickly as possible. 

Per Jelani Scott of the NFL's website, Jones has put pen to paper on his rookie contract that will pay him $15.6 million fully guaranteed over his first four seasons and that includes a signing bonus of roughly $8.7 million and the fifth-year option for first-round picks. New England selected the Alabama Crimson Tide product 15th overall this spring. 

According to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Zach Wilson of the New York Jets and Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers are now the only signal-callers taken in the first round of this year's draft who haven't yet signed their rookie deals. 

Veteran and one-time NFL Most Valuable Player Cam Newton will begin training camp later this month as New England's QB1, while Jones will attempt to outperform backups Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer from late July through the final preseason game against the New York Giants on Aug. 29. 

"I'm the rookie, so I'm just learning from them. We're all in this together," Jones said of working alongside his new teammates last month. "There's competition but people want to have a misconstrued word there like it is a bad competition or unhealthy. We're all close. We're all going to get better together. That's what we're going to do."
