After all of the waiting and wondering who will lead the Cleveland Browns this season, it appears a decision is finally coming. The two players duking it out for the honor, of course, are second-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders and veteran Deshaun Watson.
While Sanders brings energy and the media attention, Watson is an intriguing pick, because he'll finally have a chance to prove that he's worthy of being an NFL quarterback. After signing a huge, $230 million deal with the Browns, he's been repeatedly injured and unable to make any kind of an impact.
According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, head coach Todd Monken expects to make his final decision on the starter on Monday.
"Quick update: Browns currently expect to settle on a starting QB Monday," Fowler posted on X on Sunday.
Watson is considered the player likely to get the nod, but the Cleveland fanbase booed him at home during the team's preseason game on Saturday. He called the boos "disrespectful."
"Last time I played on this field, I tore my Achilles and that same fan base, they cheered when I got hurt," Watson told reporters after being asked if he had played better if it would have prevented getting booed. "So what does that have to do with anything about performance? When a person gets hurt, especially for your own city and they cheer."
Regardless, it sounds like it won't be long until fans know who they'll be cheering, or booing, on Sundays.
