Rhamondre Stevenson is willing to take on whatever role helps Drake Maye succeed as the New England Patriots continue their 2026 season. The running back emphasized his commitment to protecting the quarterback and helping the offense create opportunities downfield.

Stevenson made his position clear in comments reported by Patriots reporter Mark Daniels on X. His remarks highlighted the importance of doing more than carrying the ball as New England builds its offense around Maye.

“You got to keep Drake clean,” Stevenson said. “Whatever I could do to help the offensive line out, help Drake out and help the receivers get down the field and make it so it plays, I’ll do it.”

Stevenson also explained why his willingness to take on that responsibility matters to him. “And honestly I think wanting to do it is probably 80-85% of it,” he said.

The comments underline Stevenson’s understanding that a running back’s responsibilities extend beyond rushing attempts and receiving production. Pass protection can help give a quarterback more time to make decisions, while a running back’s ability to recognize pressure can support the offensive line when defenses send extra rushers.

Maye’s development remains an important part of New England’s offensive outlook. The quarterback needs protection and dependable support from his teammates as the Patriots work to maintain consistency on offense. Stevenson’s willingness to contribute wherever needed gives the coaching staff another element to consider when using him in different situations.

New England has made a competitive start to the season. The Patriots entered the latest standings update at 4-2, second in the AFC East behind the 5-1 Buffalo Bills. The New York Jets were 2-4, while the Miami Dolphins sat at 0-5. Those results leave the Patriots within reach of the division lead as the schedule progresses.

Stevenson’s comments offer a clear indication of how he views his responsibilities alongside Maye. His contribution can include running the ball, helping protect the quarterback and supporting the passing game when called upon.

The Patriots will need that collective approach as they continue through the season. For Stevenson, the priority is straightforward: do whatever the offense needs to help Maye operate effectively and give New England a better chance to win.
