For the Las Vegas Raiders, cornerback has been one of the sore spots heading into this season.
The Raiders have been unafraid to make moves to improve their depth, even after their 53-man roster was named. Since the last preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, four players (quarterback Kenny Pickett, edge rusher Brennan Jackson, offensive lineman Stone Forsythe and safety Tristin McCollum) have joined the Raiders. It is clear that, even with Week One against the New England Patriots a week away, the Raiders are still looking for any way to improve their team.
However, cornerback has been relatively unaddressed, and the Raiders might be paying for that decision.
On Thursday, Carroll revealed during his press conference that he still has not committed to a starting cornerback opposite Eric Stokes.
“We’ve got really good competition over there on the other side and we’ll see how that works out by the end of the week, we’ll keep it going,” Carroll said. “A number of guys will play in the game. You’ll see a lot of guys will be rolling through there.”
That should be worrying for the Raiders, as their cornerback room all saw up-and-down performances throughout training camp and the preseason.
Jesse Merrick of Silver & Black Sports Network did try to shed some light on the situation, believing Darien Porter and Kyu Blu Kelly have the edge over Decamerion Richardson.

Believe we’ll see Darien Porter and Kyu Blu Kelly most…not sure how much Decamerion Richardson figures in there

Everything sets up for cornerback to be a massive question mark for the Raiders this year, and it is hard to get a gauge on how they will perform this season. Even more frustrating is that the Raiders traded cornerback Jakorian Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason, and he has potentially earned a starting role for them this season.
If the Raiders cannot get their secondary figured out, the AFC West could become much more challenging for them to ascend.
