Pete Carroll: Seahawks 'have no intention' of trading Russell Wilson

Despite rumors claiming otherwise coming off the 2020 NFL season, both Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider insisted last April the club never came close to trading star quarterback Russell Wilson. With the Seahawks out of playoff contention by late December and new reports circulating throughout the football community, Wilson spoke at that time about his desire to stay in Seattle and, more recently, told NBC’s "TODAY" show he's happy in the Emerald City.

Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Carroll spoke with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday and admitted Schneider will likely take calls about any player. However, he added that doesn't mean Wilson is going anywhere before or shortly after this year's draft.

"At this time of year, there’s conversations about everybody. We’re talking about everybody," Carroll explained. "And that’s commonplace for us to have conversations with teams about all of the players — particularly marquee players. And that’s not changed. It’s been the same every year we’ve been here. So it’s the same as it’s been. We have no intention of making any move there. But the conversations, John has to feel those — he always has. But nothing specific to that."

Wilson missed time this past fall after he underwent surgery to repair an injury to the middle finger on his throwing hand, and PFT's Curtis Crabtree noted that the 33-year-old said ahead of Christmas he wasn't "100%" upon his initial return from his setback. Assuming Wilson can stay healthy and everybody can get along moving forward, he's likely still Seattle's best option atop the depth chart at the sport's most important position for next season.
