PFF makes big prediction for Houston Texans that history suggests will prove to be correct
Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

Pro Football Focus made a prediction for the Houston Texans this week that should prove to be correct if history is any indication.

PFF predicted the winner of each NFL division and they have the Texans winning the AFC South in 2024.

From PFF: The Texans enter the summer months as the favorite to win the AFC South after going 10-7 in C.J. Stroud‘s and DeMeco Ryans’ first season in town.

From Week 8, they went 7-4 and ranked top-20 in basically every offensive and defensive category as a team. It feels like that roster got so much better this offseason, as well, with additions such as Stefon Diggs, Danielle Hunter, Azeez Al-Shaair, Joe Mixon and Denico Autry.

This division is always wildly unpredictable — as evidenced by the Texans winning it last year — so don’t count the Colts or the Jaguars out. But the Texans came out on top last year and only got more talented this offseason, so they’re the team we have the most confidence in.

PFF is correct that the the AFC South, for the most part, is "wildly unpredictable" on a year-to-year basis. But one thing that is actually predictable is the Texans winning the division in back-to-back years.

Houston won the division for the first two times in 2011 and 2012. Their next two division titles came in 2015 and 2016. They also won the division in 2018 and 2019. Essentially, the Texans only win the division in back-to-back years. Which means they should be due for another division title in 2024.

The Texans have the best roster in the AFC South -- especially with the additions of wide receiver Stefon Diggs and edge rusher Danielle Hunter. But that doesn't mean it'll be a cake walk for Houston. The Tennessee Titans are greatly improved. The Indianapolis Colts get Anthony Richardson back. And the Jacksonville Jaguars seem to always manage to find a way to be a thorn in someone's side.

History suggests that it's Houston's division to lose. But it won't just be given to them -- the Texans will have to execute on Sundays this fall to ensure that their back-to-back streak doesn't end in 2024.
