Pittsburgh Steelers send offensive line coach Pat Meyer to scout Oregon State Pro Day
USA TODAY Sports

This week on the NFL calendar is about as busy as it gets for NFL teams.

And while it may not seem that way for the Steelers following a fairly inactive first day of free agency, their time is coming.

A look at who they sent to the Pacific Northwest proves as much:

Pat Meyer Scouting Taliese Fuaga

Now, I'm not saying that the Steelers can't walk and chew gum at the same time, but their focus on day one and potentially day two of the legal tampering period isn't looking like it will be heavily focused on the offensive line.

And when you see that Steelers offensive line coach Pat Meyer was at Oregon State on Monday, scouting one of the best tackles in the draft, and will likely be at Oregon on Tuesday to scout the best center in the draft, their lack of moves along the offensive line in the early parts of the tampering period starts to make sense.

But the issue here is that the Steelers will only be able to draft one or the other, seeing as Oregon State's Fuaga sits at 15th on the consensus board, with Oregon center Jackson Powers Johnson situated at 24th.

Now there is still a lot of time before the draft, and I would personally find it hard to believe that Fuaga escapes the top 10, as sources have confirmed he's closer to being selected within the top 10 then out of it, which was further evidenced by his Pro day showing:

That makes Jackson Powers Johnson the more likely pick of the two, with Tuesday's Pro Day in Eugene being an opportunity to all but confirm the Steelers interest in JPJ.

So if Pittsburgh seems to be inactive over the first two days, don't fret. For one, the team usually waits until things officially begin (Wednesday) as the second wave of smaller but just as important free agents tend to entice Pittsburgh more.

But as you can see, they are also busy scouting upcoming talent which could net an even better return in the long run.

Patience Steelers fans.
