Post-waiver wire fantasy football pickups for Week 2

So you didn’t get the waiver claim you were looking for for Week 2. You can still (Jaylen) Wright the fantasy ship with players that remain available in most leagues.

WR: Allen Lazard (New York Jets)

Without Aaron Rodgers, Lazard had 23 catches for 311 yards for the Jets last season. With his quarterback finally healthy in Week 1, the long-time Packer matched teammate Garrett Wilson with 6 catches for a team-high 89 yards and two touchdowns.

Lazard’s 26.9 fantasy points were third-most among receivers behind Green Bay’s Jayden Reed (33.10) and the Rams' Cooper Kupp (32.00) last week. He’ll face a Titans secondary in Week 2 that gave up a league-low 64 yards to an overwhelmed Caleb Williams and the Bears on Sunday but could struggle against a four-time MVP like Rodgers.

Lazard is available in 63% of Yahoo leagues.

RB: Bucky Irving (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Tampa’s fourth-round pick in this year’s draft averaged 6.9 yards per attempt on nine carries for a team-high 62 yards with two catches for 14 yards against the Commanders on Sunday. Lead back Rachaad White had six catches for 75 yards but averaged just 2.1 yards per carry for 31 yards on the ground.

Bucs fans were so enamored with Irving’s performance that chants of “Bucky Bucky” were heard throughout Raymond James Stadium. If he continues to play well, he could see more work on early downs. He scored fewer fantasy points (9.60) than White (16.60) in Week 1 but Irving is definitely worth a claim in deeper leagues.

Irving is available in 72% of Yahoo! leagues.

RB: Jaylen Wright (Miami Dolphins)

Wright went five spots ahead of Irving in the draft but was a healthy scratch against the Jaguars to start the season. That should change this week as Raheem Mostert has already been ruled out with a chest injury and second-year running back De'Von Achane looks to be a game-time decision with an ankle injury.

If Achane can’t play, Irving would share the backfield with Jeff Wilson who had five carries for 26 yards on Sunday but had just 41 carries for 188 yards in 2023 and hasn’t scored a touchdown since 2022.

Wright averaged 6.2 yards per carry for 2,297 yards and 18 touchdowns in three years with Tennessee and with 4.38 speed, could be a sneaky play against the Bills on Thursday night. Buffalo allowed the fourth-most fantasy points (32.7) to running backs in Week 1 and could get a heavy dose of Miami’s rookie running back in Week 2.

Wright is available in 74% of leagues.

TE: Juwan Johnson (New Orleans Saints)

So much attention is given to the versatile Taysom Hill that it’s easy to forget about the team’s other tight ends. Hill rushed for 35 yards against the Panthers but had just one catch for one yard while teammates Foster Moreau and Juwan Johnson combined for 69 yards on six catches with a pair of touchdowns.

Moreau was limited in Wednesday’s practice after leaving Sunday’s game with a head injury. If the sixth-year tight end can’t clear the NFL’s concussion protocol, Johnson could see the majority of snaps as the Saints look to keep up with a Cowboys’ offense that put up 33 points against the Browns in Week 1.

Johnson is available in 94% of Yahoo leagues.
