The Jaguars and Jets head into Sunday’s matchup with a combined record of 6-20.
Remarkably, the Jaguars are coming off a 10-6 victory against the Tennessee Titans. In contrast, the Jets haven't won a game since Halloween, when they defeated the Houston Texans 21-13.
One person who has endured every painful moment of this season is Jake Asman. In addition to his responsibilities on ESPN Radio and Mad Dog Radio on Sirius XM, Jake creates a lot of great Jets content on YouTube. Be sure to give him a follow here.
Craig: Each of these franchises didn’t expect to playing in mid December for merely draft positioning. Can you speak on the season and the playoff drought for the Jets which has now reached 14 years?
Jake: It’s hard to break down the playoff drought being as long as it has been. The Jets haven’t even had a winning since in almost a decade either. In a salary cap sport with 7 teams making the playoffs now each year per conference it remains unfathomable how the Jets have remained bad for as long as they have over different coaches, GM’s, QBs, etc.
Craig: These teams faced each other two years ago and Chris Streueler was the most effective player that day for the Jets. He carried the ball 9 times and completed 10 passes. Who do you think brings it this Sunday @ Everbank?
Jake: I hope Garrett Wilson continues to play well. He is closing in on another 100 catch and 1000 yard season and I would love to see him get that as he has said those stats would mean a lot to him.
Craig: Were the Aaron Rodgers passing numbers last week vs Miami a reflection of his performance or a reflection of Miami’s shortcomings with coverage and tackling?
Jake: Aaron played well and it was his best overall game since the Jets home opener against the Patriots in Week 3 when it looked like he had shaken off the rust from the injury and was going to play at a high level this year. He took a beating after that and over the last two games has not been on the injury report so perhaps his health being good is going to allow him to play well down the stretch.
Craig: Davante Adams indicated that the Jets are still playing for pride. Do you believe that’s the case?
Jake: I do. It’s not like the Jets are being blown out in any of these games. They continue to have leads in the 4th quarter and are trying to win but the coaching issues this team had had all year and especially since Robert Saleh was fired continue to be exposed week in and week out.
Craig: Who would you personally like to see as the Jets coach next season?
Jake: I want Mike Vrabel. I want someone with experience and someone that has had success without always having an elite QB. Vrabel would provide instant credibility and wouldn’t be another first timer learning on the job in the biggest media market in the world with a fanbase that is rightfully enraged with how bad the Jets have been the last 14 seasons.
Craig: Biggest key to the game on Sunday vs. the Jags?
Jake: The Jets need to be able to get stops on defense. It sounds simple but any time the Jets have needed a big stop all season long, the defense which the last two years had been by far their biggest strength has crumbled.
