Proposed Trade Re-Routes Bears TE to Miami Dolphins
Tight end Cole Kmet has been a steadying presence for the Chicago Bears on the offensive end ever since the start of the decade, and one proposed trade has the Miami Dolphins acquiring the 27-year-old.
ESPN’s Seth Walder recently put together a hypothetical deal that would re-route the tight end to the Dolphins and send draft capital (fourth- and sixth-round picks) in the 2027 NFL Draft to the Bears.
Hypothetical trade proposed by @SethWalder of ESPN:
Miami Dolphins receive:
TE Cole Kmet
Chicago Bears receive:
2027 4th-round pick
2027 6th-round pick

Kmet, a second-round pick back in 2020, would give the Dolphins a tried-and-true option at tight end that they simply don’t have right now. For as much as Greg Dulcich impressed in the second half of the 2025 season, it’s possible that stretch was just a flash in the pan, as it was a relatively small sample size and he’s still proven very little at the highest level. To compare the two’s NFL experience, Dulcich has 13 career starts, while Kmet started 16 games in 2025 alone.
The Dolphins should jump at the opportunity to acquire Kmet from the Bears if it arises, just maybe not at the exact price point that Walder outlined. Multiple draft picks is a lot to give up for a team that’s made it clear from the top down that it’s looking to rebuild through the draft. Also, Kmet is on the heels of far from his best season, as while he did certainly contribute a whole lot (347 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns), he was ultimately outshined by then-rookie Colston Loveland, a first-round pick last year.
Kmet is just one of the many players the Dolphins could pursue in the coming months as they look to bolster their offense from a talent standpoint. Maybe he will end up in Miami or maybe he won’t, but it’s clear that quarterback Malik Willis needs more help around him in some form or fashion.
