Raheem Mostert calls out Miami Dolphins after Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith Steelers trade

The Steelers and Dolphins made a major trade on Monday. Pittsburgh acquired star cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith from Miami, while sending defender Minkah Fitzpatrick back to South Beach.

The move turned heads throughout the NFL, catching the attention for former Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert. Evidently, he wasn’t too keen on how Miami treated him after he made the Pro Bowl with the team in 2023, and he let his feelings be known about the franchise moving players with the gravitas of Ramsey and Smith.

“Hot take: Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like sh*t,” Mostert posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), in light of the news of the trade. “Happy for my guys though! GO BALL OUT!!”

While Ramsey missed out on the Pro Bowl last season, he’s made it multiple times throughout his career, including 2023 with Miami. On the other hand, Smith had his best season in the NFL last year, and as Mostert alluded to, the tight end made the Pro Bowl in 2024, before being shipped to Pittsburgh.

Regardless, Mostert’s feelings are more of a reflection on the Dolphins than anything. Ramsey and Smith are two formidable players, but at least they’re getting a solid return, as Fitzpatrick is certainly no slouch.

The former Alabama star has been with the Steelers for the past six seasons. In that time, he’s become a three-time First-Team All-Pro and a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He co-led the league in interceptions in 2022, as well.

Now, he’ll get a chance to suit up for the Dolphins once again, after they traded him to the Steelers two games into his sophomore season with Miami. At 28-years-old, he still has some prime seasons ahead of him, and he’ll be expected to become one of the leaders of the team’s defensive unit.

On the other hand, it won’t be easy to replace the production of the two players the Dolphins are trading. Ramsey is coming off his ninth season in the NFL and second in Miami. He posted 60 tackles, 11 deflections, a pair of interceptions, and a sack in a full season’s slate of work in their secondary.

Meanwhile, Smith was targeted 111 times and had 88 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024. Those were also Dolphins franchise records for a tight end. Now, he’ll join a tight end room that was headlined by Pat Freiermuth last season.

Moving forward, Raheem Mostert will be rooting for his former teammates, as long as they’re not playing the Raiders. He signed a one-year, $2.1 million contract with Las Vegas this offseason, and he’s hoping he still has some juice left in the tank at 33-years-old.
