Just before joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers are set to begin, the Las Vegas Raiders are giving their offensive depth a shakeup.
On Monday, the Raiders announced that they have signed wide receiver Marquez Callaway. In a corresponding roster move, the team has waived wide receiver Kawaan Baker.
A four-year veteran, Callaway started his career as an undrafted free agent in 2020, signing with the New Orleans Saints. In 47 career NFL games, Callaway has recorded 83 catches for 1,069 yards and seven touchdowns. He has also returned 14 punts for 149 yards and four kickoffs for 94 yards.
This will be Callaway’s second stint with the Raiders, as he served on the team’s practice squad at the beginning of the 2023 season.
Prior to his NFL career, Callaway was one of the most prolific return men in the country at the University of Tennessee. During his four years there, Callaway returned 40 punts for 543 yards and three touchdowns, then the second-most in program history. He also added 92 receptions for 1,646 yards and 13 touchdowns, as well as eight kickoff returns for 86 yards.
Return duties for the Raiders are currently being split between wide receiver Tre Tucker and Zamir White, so the team is going to see if Callaway can provide them a different look on special teams.
