Similar to the 53-man roster, the Las Vegas Raiders are making a few changes on their practice squad.
On Monday, the Raiders announced that they had signed quarterback Jeff Driskel and linebacker Brian Asamoah to their practice squad. In corresponding roster moves, the team has released safety Trey Taylor and linebacker Matt Jones.
A veteran backup who has bounced around the league, Driskel is now on his eighth team in as many NFL seasons now that he is with the Raiders. A sixth-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2016, Driskel has appeared in games with six different franchises. His most recent significant game action came as a member of the Cleveland Browns in 2023.
A third-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, Asamoah never got an opportunity to make an impression on defense. His tenure in Minnesota ended a couple weeks before cutoff day, and he spent the rest of training camp with the Tennessee Titans. With the depth at linebacker the Raiders have, Asamoah provides another option the Raiders could turn to in the event of injuries.
Taylor was a seventh-round pick of the Raiders in 2024, appearing in nine games as a rookie but ultimately being forced out by new additions. Jones was an undrafted free agent signing made this season.
Driskel’s signing also does not impact sixth-round rookie Cam Miller, who remains on the practice squad.
