Las Vegas Raiders fans can be forgiven at this point for believing that their team simply cannot catch a break.
During the second quarter of the Raiders’ defensive struggle against the Denver Broncos, offensive guard Jackson Powers-Johnson went down with an ankle injury and did not return to the game. The maligned offensive line had already taken its lumps, with left tackle Kolton Miller still yet to return to the lineup.
Now, it appears as though the Raiders will be without another core player in the trenches for the foreseeable future.
On Tuesday, the Raiders officially placed Powers-Johnson on injured reserve, ensuring that he will miss at least the next four games.
Surgery is also on the table, which would likely indicate that Powers-Johnson’s season is over. If that is the case, it would bring an end to what has been a frustrating second season so far.
In his place, the Raiders have added linebacker Jamin Davis to the active roster.
Davis, who was added to the practice squad on Oct. 8, was the 19th pick of the then-Washington Football Team in 2021. His career has been a struggle so far, however, and he was released in October of 2024. He then landed with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, playing in four games last season with the latter.
As far as Powers-Johnson’s replacement goes, it is expected that Alex Cappa will get the nod first. However, third-round rookie Caleb Rogers is waiting in the wings at the first sign of trouble.
The Raiders are quickly trending towards another lost season, and this latest setback does not help matters.
