Prior to the start of the season, the Las Vegas Raiders received a trade request from wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.
Meyers, currently on the last year of his deal with no guaranteed money remaining, made the request after he and the Raiders could not come to terms on an extension. However, the Raiders announced shortly after that they would not trade Meyers due to his significant role in their offense. Even though he did not pull his request off the table, Meyers decided to bet on himself and start the season with the Raiders.
Months later, the Raiders may now have no other choice than to change their course.
A 1-4 start has changed how the Raiders are viewing this season and, if a proper rebuild is the only recourse remaining, trading Meyers for an asset or two would be an appealing start.
The significant role that was teased has yet to truly materialize. Meyers leads the Raiders with 39 targets, 25 receptions and 290 yards, but quarterback Geno Smith appears to have found a greater rapport with Tre Tucker. The only two Raiders with receiving touchdowns so far this season are Tucker (four) and running back Ashton Jeanty (2), and that has undoubtedly lead to some added frustration.
Most targets this season without a receiving touchdown:
1. Tetairoa McMillan (43)
2. Jakobi Meyers (39)
T3. Stefon Diggs, Jerry Jeudy, Calvin Ridley (34)— Ian Hartitz (@Ihartitz) October 6, 2025
Should the Raiders decide to go the route of a Meyers trade, the question becomes what would constitute fair value.
Early potential deals suggest a fourth-round pick would head back to the Raiders in exchange for Meyers, but that might not work given the team’s early reluctance to get a deal done. They might also allow Meyers to walk if the general feeling is that the team could net a compensatory third-round pick for their troubles. While that pick would not come until 2027, the Raiders might not mind if they are looking at a long-term rebuild anyway.
As the losses continue to pile up, the Raiders might have no other alternative than to see what they can get for Meyers and similar pieces.
