All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams joined the Las Vegas Raiders via a trade from the Green Bay Packers in March 2022. He's set to face Green Bay on Monday night for the first time since that transaction and has also been the subject of trade rumors in recent weeks.
"I'm just trying to stay centered and stay focused on the ultimate goal, which is winning games," Adams told Paul Gutierrez of ESPN. "It's the cliché answer, but that's really all I can do. ... My job is to play, and the front office, their job is to do what they do. It's just the easiest way to not live on a roller coaster, this up-and-down world, just take care of what I can take care of. And as much as I can contribute to that, I'm going to do that."
Adams signed a five-year deal reportedly worth $141.25M shortly after he was traded to Las Vegas. The 2022 Raiders then went 6-11 before the organization officially parted ways with Derek Carr, Adams's college quarterback at Fresno State, in February.
The 2023 edition of the Raiders have started out at 1-3, and some wondered as recently as last week if Adams could become available before the Oct. 31 trade deadline. However, it was reported ahead of this past weekend that the 30-year-old is "set on playing in Vegas long-term" and beyond the ongoing campaign.
"What's most important to me is going to the Super Bowl," Adams added. "I've been to four NFC championship games in Green Bay in eight years. So, I've won a lot of games in the regular season. I've got a lot of stats. What I haven't done is check that box of winning the Super Bowl. I'm trying to create something special here. I can only do so much on my individual end. ... you don't fluke into the Super Bowl; you do it a certain way to win the Super Bowl."
If the Raiders' season goes up in flames, the club theoretically could press the figurative reset button and part ways with starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo this coming winter. Such a scenario could cause Adams to experience a change of heart regarding his relationship with Las Vegas and result in the superstar wide receiver hitting the trade market for the second time in three offseasons.
