Building a superteam is one thing. Keeping it together is another, always difficult when everyone wants to get paid.

That reality is already facing the Los Angeles Rams. Their pending 2027 free agents include Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Kevin Dotson and Steve Avila.

The Rams’ Vital Pieces

These are vital pieces. Nacua is one of the best receivers in the league. Young and Turner are key pieces of the NFL’s top defensive front, expected to disrupt offensive lines for years to come. Dotson and Avila keep Matthew Stafford upright and power the Rams’ stout run game. Adams reminded the league last season he’s still a red-zone threat, and camp and joint practices have shown he’s still dangerous on the perimeter, all while mentoring the group.

Without them the Rams wouldn’t be a Super Bowl-caliber team in 2026, let alone a candidate for the undefeated regular-season conversation.

That roster is stacked because general manager Les Snead didn’t stop at re-signing his own players. Reigning MVP Stafford returns with a raise, and this offseason, Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie joined him as high-profile acquisitions, followed by Aaron Donald, one of the best defensive players of his era. The Super Bowl, five months away, will be played at the Rams’ home venue, SoFi Stadium, a fitting stage for the talent assembled.

Tough calls, one trusted GM

That much star power and attention brings pressure. The Rams will either play up to the hype and win their first Super Bowl in five years or join the ranks of teams that failed after being labeled a preseason favorite. Either way, that doesn’t change the tough calls ahead.

Those decisions start with the free agents already mentioned. Keeping everyone will be hard. Some players may agree to extensions, while others will hit the open market and land deals elsewhere.

The Rams’ trump card is Snead, one of the NFL’s most creative executives. If there’s a way to retain these players, he’ll find it.
