With the Los Angeles Rams preparing in training camp for the upcoming season, there’s no denying that the team has been considered one of the early favorites to win the Super Bowl. As the Rams face the Kansas City Chiefs in the preseason opener on Saturday, this former player and analyst speaks on the team being connected to win the Super Bowl this early.
Speaking on ESPN’s “First Take,” Canty was asked if he buys the DraftKings odds having Los Angeles as the preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl. Canty expressed without hesitation that he doesn’t put stock in it, comparing them to the four teams in the past 30 years that have been the favorites this early to win the championship.
“Last 30 years in the NFL, the preseason favorite…you only talked about four of them winning the actual championship, and those four teams, their quarterbacks, Tom Brady, done it twice, Peyton Manning, Hall of Famer, and Patrick Mahomes, future Hall of Famer. I can’t assign that level of success to them just based on what we’ve seen from the trends because we know when you have that preseason favorite moniker, everybody is circling you on their schedule,” Canty said.
“You got a target on your back. It’s a very different thing being a hunted versus a hunter,” Canty continued. “Only two quarterbacks have won the Super Bowl, age 39 or older: Peyton Manning, Tom Brady.”

It’s easy to see why many do consider the Rams a contender this season; having already had a successful team going into the offseason, the team would add defensive superstar Myles Garrett into the fold. It remains to be seen if Los Angeles can live up to the expectations, as Week 1 is on Sept. 10 against the San Francisco 49ers.
