It was recently learned Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson will not face criminal charges stemming from an alleged incident which took place last month. As such, a pretrial diversion program will take place in this case.
“Charges are not filed against the respondent at this time, however, the case stays open throughout the length of the statute of limitations,” a statement from Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office spokesperson Ivan Pine reads (via ESPN’s Sarah Barshop). “It can be re-evaluated if there are further developments.”
Provided Jackson avoids any issues in completing the diversion program, his criminal case will come to a close. As Barshop confirms, however, the possibility of NFL discipline remains. A fine and/or suspension under the personal conduct policy could be handed down and result in missed time. Jackson served a two-game suspension to begin the 2024 campaign.
That incident did not involve criminal proceedings, although it resulted in a civil suit being filed. The lawsuit was filed in November, but Barshop notes the case was moved from Los Angeles Superior Court to a federal court. It was ultimately dismissed on April 10. That development was followed by the alleged June incident, but with that case nearing a conclusion Jackson’s attention will turn to the potential of another NFL suspension.
In 2025, Jackson and the Rams agreed to a three-year, $57MM extension. The 28-year-old remains under team control through 2027 as a result, and another season as Los Angeles’ starting left tackle can be expected. The matter of when Jackson will be available to play this year will remain an unanswered question until an NFL investigation can take place and any league discipline is handed down.
