Rams' Matthew Stafford Receives Tier 1 Ranking

Voters praised Stafford for his ability to read defenses, make adjustments on the fly and consistently put the offense in the best position to score, along with his elite arm strength and pinpoint accuracy to make any throw on the field. Those traits, combined with the tutelage of head coach and offensive mastermind Sean McVay, have sharpened his play since he arrived in Los Angeles in 2021 — the same season he led the Rams to their first Super Bowl title in more than two decades.

"He wins at the line of scrimmage, and then he's got this elite arm talent, and they're well-schemed," a general manager said. "Everything they put on him at the line of scrimmage, he makes it come to life. Best in the league at that."

"He's scary," a defensive coordinator added. "When I first got in the league, there were more guys you had to worry about. You knew if you played Peyton (Manning), you played (Brett) Favre, (Tom) Brady, (Drew) Brees — it was, 'Oh my God!' Stafford has still got that, and he's operating in a difficult-to-defend offense."

What's incredible is that despite being on the wrong side of 30, Stafford is showing no signs of slowing down. Last season, he completed 65% of his passes for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns, both league highs, while throwing just eight interceptions. The top-rated offense reached the NFC Championship Game before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

Entering this year as Super Bowl favorites, Stafford has picked up right where he left off in his 18th training camp, delivering signature throws — including a few no-look passes — to wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, even against an improved defense featuring All-Pro additions Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie.

In a career spanning nearly two decades with the Detroit Lions and Rams, Stafford has amassed individual awards, career earnings and a championship. Now the focus is simply on adding another ring to a career destined for the Hall of Fame.
