Los Angeles Rams big-name wide receiver Puka Nacua has been the subject of numerous non-football-related headlines throughout the offseason, and he checked himself into a rehab facility earlier this spring to reportedly focus on his "personal growth."
Nacua is also in the final year of his team-friendly rookie contract. It sounds like the Rams aren't thinking about possibly moving on from him despite all that has happened over the past six months or so.
"Team sources have indicated privately that they believe Nacua needs to make better decisions about whom he associates with," NFL insider Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom US wrote about the Rams for an update shared on Monday. "But [the Rams] have told others around the league they believe Nacua has a good heart and they have applauded his efforts to get help."
As Jack McKessy of USA Today noted, Nacua's issues began when he made an offensive gesture that he later said he did not know "was antisemitic in nature and perpetuated harmful stereotypes against Jewish people" during a December livestream. In February, a video surfaced showing Nacua stumbling and dancing in the street on the night of the Super Bowl. It was then learned in March that a woman had filed a civil lawsuit accusing Nacua of biting her and of making an antisemitic comment on Dec. 31.
Last week, Nacua said he has "been really grateful for the support from the organization, especially my teammates," this offseason. He added that he has "learned that it's okay to ask for support."
One unnamed general manager who spoke with La Canfora said that "the contract language will protect the team (from off-field issues)" as it pertains to the Rams possibly locking Nacua down via a multiyear deal.
"They built that offense around Puka," the general manager continued while speaking about the Rams. "He isn’t going anywhere."
La Canfora shared that "Nacua remains in line for a record-setting contract extension that will likely eclipse" the four-year, $168.6M deal that Jaxon Smith-Njigba received from the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason. Nacua led the NFL for the 2025 regular season with 129 receptions and ranked second in the league with 1,715 receiving yards. Across 16 games, he tallied 10 touchdown catches.
"Veteran Davante Adams is nearing the end of his career and is likely in his final season with the Rams," La Canfora added, "making Nacua’s place with the franchise even more vital."
