The Los Angeles Rams received a small but significant piece of encouraging news about their offensive line following a tough Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Nate Atkins of The Athletic, “No Rams injury updates from Sean McVay. Nobody got hurt significantly yesterday, and they’ll see if Steve Avila can suit up for practice when Wednesday-Friday arrive.”

The interior line was under heavy pressure throughout the game, particularly after starting guard Kevin Dotson left due to cramps in the fourth quarter. Dotson’s exit forced a quick reshuffle along the line: Steve Avila, already sidelined with an ankle issue, was unable to start, and Justin Dedich took his place at guard. To fill Dotson’s spot, Beaux Limmer slid in at right guard. Fortunately, Dotson was able to rejoin the lineup to finish the game, a welcome sight given the struggles of his replacements.
PFF grades highlighted the difficulty of the Rams’ situation: both Limmer and Dedich earned a 0.0 pass-blocking grade, leaving quarterback Matthew Stafford with almost no time to operate in the pocket. The Eagles’ defensive front relentlessly pressured Stafford.
Avila and Dotson have struggled with injuries all season. Dotson has dealt with a chest contusion to start the season and an ankle injury which limited him against the Titans
“Kevin Dotson had a lateral ankle sprain,” McVay shared last week. “He’ll be week-to-week. Steve also had an ankle sprain… Steve did an amazing job of coming in to be able to finish the game.”
Dotson’s absence—or limited availability—remains a concern for both pass protection and the run game. The reshuffled line could give opposing defenses, like the Eagles, opportunities to exploit mismatches and apply extra pressure on Stafford and the backfield.
McVay noted that the status of both Dotson and Avila will be closely monitored over the next 24–48 hours, with a clearer picture expected later in the week regarding practice participation and projected workload.
For now, the Rams will rely on their backups to stabilize the line and keep offensive drives moving. While Week 3 exposed vulnerabilities in pass protection, the absence of further injuries provides a silver lining for a Rams team eager to rebound in the coming weeks.
