The Green Bay Packers plan to move on from one of their All-Pros who had been skipping voluntay offseason work this spring, but another opened up about why he’s in the building for mandatory minicamp.
While Jaire Alexander will play his next snap elsewhere this fall, Elgton Jenkins was in attendance as he and his offensive teammates got down to work during mandatory minicamp, the last practices of the spring before training camp begins in late July.
“According to sources, Jenkins was OK with the Packers moving him from guard to center,” ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports. “But he wanted his contract adjusted to protect against the loss of future income (centers are typically paid less than guards). Though the Packers don’t usually renegotiate contracts with two years remaining, as Jenkins has on his deal, perhaps they could offer to guarantee some or all of his remaining money considering there are no guarantees left on his contract.”
How this saga ends is anyone’s guess, But Jenkins is a vital piece along an offensive line that will play a key role in whether quarterback Jordan Love and the offense make strides this season.
Jenkins, 29, only allowed one sack in 2024 and will be called upon to provide veteran stability up front in 2025.
