The Kansas City Chiefs made an unexpected move on Saturday by listing star defensive tackle Chris Jones on the injury report. The Chiefs did not give the veteran a game status designation, indicating that Jones is dealing with a personal matter.
There was considerable concern as to whether Jones would be able to suit up for Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
The good news is that Jones is expected to play Sunday. This report comes via CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson, who also revealed that Jones is attending a family funeral.
In a separate report, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com confirmed the news about Jones attending a funeral. Derrick also reported the Chiefs star took part in the team’s morning walkthrough on Saturday before leaving.
Jones will reportedly return on Sunday morning in time for the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff (CBS) at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs, however, added Jones to the injury report “as a precaution in the event travel delays arise,” Derrick reported.
While this may not be an ideal situation, the biggest takeaway here is that Jones should be good to go against the Ravens. The 31-year-old is one of the Chiefs’ most important players on defense, and he will need to be at his best against a Jackson-led Ravens offense.
The Chiefs will be looking to improve to 2-2 on Sunday. They lost their first two games of the season, but nabbed their first victory in Week 3 against the New York Giants. Baltimore is 1-2 after close losses to the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions.
