The Kansas City Chiefs traded for defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi from the New York Jets, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. It’s his second stint with the team.
The #Chiefs are trading with the #Jets to bring back DT Derrick Nnadi, per sources,” Fowler wrote on Twitter/X. “Deal includes a 2027 conditional 6th/7th pick flop.”
A former third round pick out of Florida State by the Chiefs (2018), Nnadi spent his entire career with Kansas City until this summer. He signed with the Jets back in March but will now head back to a familiar place.
Nnadi has five career sacks, to go along with 233 total tackles in seven seasons with the Chiefs. Despite starting every game in 2022 and ’23, en route to his second and third Super Bowl titles, Nnadi starting just one last year while appearing in all 17. But, he was limited ot just 11 tackles last season.
While at Florida State, he was Third-Team All-ACC in 2017, his final season with the Seminoles. Going into his eighth NFL season, Nnadi should have a solid role in KC once again.
As a member of the Class of 2014, Nnadi was a four-star recruit out of Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He was the No. 5 overall prospect in the state, the No. 12 defensive lineman in the class and the No. 100 overall prospect in the class.
Kansas City goes into 2025 coming off a 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The team attempted to win a third straight title, but fell short.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and more are back this season, including Nnadi now. Despite a rough loss in the biggest game, the team is still one of the favorites in the AFC and could very well return to the Super Bowl.
