Before Micah Parsons made his Green Bay Packers debut in the club's 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, a report shared that "the Philadelphia Eagles made a strong push to" acquire Parsons from the division-rival Dallas Cowboys this summer.
On Sunday afternoon, NFL insider Jay Glazer of Fox Sports offered more information about what Philadelphia was willing to give Dallas for Parsons' services.
Per Johnny McGonigal of PennLive, Glazer revealed that Philadelphia offered Dallas two first-round draft picks, a third-round choice and a fifth-round selection "among other things" for Parsons. According to Glazer, this was the "biggest offer" the Cowboys received before they traded Parsons to Green Bay for two first-round picks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark on Aug. 28.
The Packers ultimately made Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history when they signed him to a four-year, $188 million contract that included $136 million guaranteed as part of completing the trade.
Glazer added that the Cowboys "obviously didn’t want to trade" Parsons to an NFC East team, let alone a rival that won the Super Bowl this past February.
"What (the Cowboys) were hoping to do was trade (Parsons) to an AFC team," Glazer continued during the segment. "I think they were shocked. They could not get any traction anywhere from an AFC team."
On Sept. 4, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN suggested that "Parsons was intrigued by several teams" during his negotiations with the Cowboys, most notably the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs. Fowler said that "the Chiefs were never in it" regarding a possible trade for Parsons, and The Athletic's Jon Machota pointed out that "the Cowboys were adamant about getting a defensive tackle in return who could help their run defense."
Per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Parsons recorded three pressures and one sack while playing 29 of 65 defensive snaps in Green Bay's win over Detroit. He had been slowed by a back issue throughout the summer.
As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Packers fourth among the betting favorites at +900 odds to win Super Bowl LX this coming February. Meanwhile, the Eagles opened their season with a 24-20 win over the Cowboys on Sept. 4.
