The NFL dominated Christmas, beating the NBA in terms of viewership by a huge margin. However, many fans were convinced that the pro football league only got a massive audience because of Beyoncé.
As fans know, Beyoncé performed at halftime of the Baltimore Ravens-Houston Texans showdown, which was the second game of the NFL's Christmas Day slate after the Kansas City Chiefs-Pittsburgh Steelers clash.
Both games drew an average of 24.2 million viewers. According to reports, 65 million viewers from the U.S. watched at least one minute of the two matchups.
Nonetheless, several fans argued that the only reason the NFL got such numbers was because they had Queen Bey performing. Many also criticized the two games played since they lacked intensity, with both contests ending in a blowout.
That being said, a new report revealed just how much impact Beyoncé's halftime show had on the NFL's viewership. The New York Times shared that 27 million viewers tuned in to watch the halftime performance, exceeding the average of the two games played.
"But Beyoncé’s halftime performance during the Ravens-Texans game did even better, according to Nielsen, a ratings service," The New York Times reported. "She drew an audience of 27 million. The hashtag #BeyonceBowl ranked above even #Christmas on X, according to Netflix."
Sure enough, no one can deny the massive influence of Beyoncé. The NFL did well choosing her to help boost their viewership, though, as it only added more to the popularity of their games.
Perhaps the other leagues can learn a thing or two on what the NFL did to further promote its Christmas Day showing.
