- Former Tennessee Titans sidled star A.J. Brown is at the center of locker room controversy in Philadelphia.
While they may be sitting at 11-5 on paper, things are not so sunny in Philadelphia right now. The Eagles have lost four of their last five games and have given control of the AFC East to the 11-5 Dallas Cowboys.
According to a report from Marcus Hayes of The Philadelphia Inquirer, there is growing tension between Eagles players and head coach Nick Sirianni that is “tearing the team apart" and Brown appears to be at the center of it all.
After Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Brown opted to not speak with media at his locker. "I'm not about to talk. It ain't nothing to say," Brown told Eagles media. "It ain't directed toward y'all."
But according to Hayes' report, other players on the Eagles roster believe that Brown's postgame frustration is directed towards Philly's coaching staff.
Brown has never been afraid to speak his mind in the past when he wants the ball. He's one of best wide outs in the league and targeting him often would seem like a no brainer. But occasionally, as was the case on Sunday, the Eagles move away from throwing Brown the football at critical junctures of the games. Possibly an example of Sirianni and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson "getting too cute" and the cause for Brown's frustration. Whatever the cause may be, it doesn't sound like Brown is helping the Eagles get things back on the right track with his attitude.
Hayes writes in his report that "a veteran captain openly disrespecting his coaches is more than just a bad look. It's locker room poison." Brown's actions have also not gone unnoticed by his teammates.
"Any time you have bad body language from a leader like that, other guys see it, and it's not good," an anonymous veteran player told Hayes.
Is A.J. Brown the reason for the Eagles recent rough patch? Certainly not. He's one of the few players on the team that is currently playing up to the organization's standards. At the end of the day, Brown wants to win. Losing four of five is a reasonable thing to get frustrated by. But if his actions are a contributing factor in the Eagles "coming apart at the seems"...The Eagles may not correct course before it's too late.
