Report: Steelers to interview Packers exec John Wojciechowski for GM job

The Steelers are set to interview a number of names for their general manager vacancy in the coming days, and the latest reported addition to the list is a familiar face — and a bit of a hometown hero to boot.

Pittsburgh will interview Packers executive John Wojciechowski for the position, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Current general manager Kevin Colbert, who has been with the team since 2000, is set to retire after the NFL Draft.

Wojciechowski got his start in the NFL with the Steelers and is from suburban Pittsburgh. He was a player-personnel assistant for the team for two seasons as he broke into the league, later leaving for the Jaguars in 1998 to become an area scout.

After five years with Jacksonville, Wojciechowski left for a promotion to college scout with the Cowboys in 2003. He held down that role in Dallas for the next nine years before eventually hopping up north to Green Bay in 2012, where he was named a college scout under the late Ted Thompson.

In 2018, when current Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst took over the job, Wojciechowski was promoted to co-director of player personnel. He's worked in the position for the past four seasons.

The Steelers have announced interviews with Ryan Cowden of the Titans, Ed Dobbs of the Colts and JoJo Wooden of the Chargers. They are reported to also be interview the Colts' Morocco Brown and ESPN analyst Louis Riddick, and are also believed to be considering a number of internal candidates.
