Seahawks Receiver DK Metcalf On Trade Block As Commanders Rumors Swirl

The Washington Commanders are done licking their wounds after having gotten outclassed by the Philadelphia Eagles, losing 55-23 in the NFC Championship Game.

There were far, far more positives than negatives in the magical 2024 season. ... and now it's time for some more.

The front office has earned goodwill with the fanbase. The quickest way to lose it is by squandering the Super Bowl window quarterback Jayden Daniels – and his contract – provides.

The time is right, we say, to swing for the fences with the hopes of bringing a Super Bowl to DC.

And suddenly, a potential home-run pitch is being served up.

One Commanders trade idea from Bleacher Report gives Daniels a major upgrade in the form of Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf.

The Seahawks have cap-space problems and depth at receiver. ... which is why physical freak DK Metcalf is suddenly available, with the gossip suggesting that Seattle is dealing with the Green Bay Packers in a swap.

And there is nothing that the Packers can dangle here that cannot be matched by Washington.

Metcalf has one year and $32 million remaining on his deal before void years kick in, making him a fairly expensive second target, given the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Between penalties and some mild inconsistencies, Metcalf is speculated to have run out of time in Seattle, who could look to get younger in the offseason.

Despite those risk factors, Metcalf remains a viable swing for Washington.

Give Daniels the combo of Terry McLaurin and Metcalf and the Commanders take a step up in class as they chase Philly and try to put space between themselves and the rest of the NFC.

Freeing up McLaurin to move into the slot more often while upgrading Washington’s potency downfield is enticing, especially given Daniels’ ability to almost effortlessly stretch the field.

After last offseason’s overhaul, the Commanders need another injection of high-level talent. That’s harder without a top draft pick, but trading No. 29 is an expendable asset now that Daniels has proven himself.

A first-round pick for Metcalf is steep, but the philosophy behind an aggressive offseason should define Washington’s offseason.
