Elijah Arroyo has been a part-time contributor on offense and special teams so far for the Seahawks. The second-year tight end will be sidelined for the time being, though.
Arroyo suffered a shoulder injury during Thursday night’s loss to the Broncos, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports. Missed time – and potentially a move to injured reserve – is in store as a result, although a firm prognosis is not yet in place. Fowler reported earlier today that tight end Josiah Deguara is being signed to the practice squad.
With Arroyo set to spend time on the mend, the Deguara addition will offer depth at the TE spot. A second-round pick in 2025, Arroyo made 15 catches during his rookie season while logging an offensive snap share of 40%. His playing time has dropped considerably under new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury, however, resulting in just one scorless catch to date. Now, an absence of at least four games could be on tap.
Arroyo has handled a 32% snap share on special teams, which marks a notable jump compared to his rookie year. The Miami product’s third phase contributions will be missed during his absence, while Seattle’s tight end depth will take a hit. AJ Barner and Eric Saubert are still in the fold, and they will remain regulars for the defending champions moving forward.
Deguara entered the league as a third-round pick of the Packers in 2020. After playing out his rookie contract in Green Bay, he spent time with Jacksonville, Arizona and Philadelphia. In all, Deguara has totaled 12 starts and 78 appearances during the regular season in his career. His next stop could result in a depth role as early as Week 7.
