Shedeur Sanders is quickly earning NFL fans' respect this offseason.
The Cleveland Browns selected Sanders with the 144th pick in this year's draft. There's a ton of hype surrounding him since he's the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders. Nothing will be given to him though. He'll have to earn his spot on the 53-man roster.
"I’m going to sound like a broken record here — but it’s to make the team, nobody here has made the team yet. So it’s making the team. And then after that, it’s earning a role. That’s the same thing for Shedeur," Browns general manager Andrew Berry said this week, via ProFootballTalk.
Since he's a fifth-round pick, Sanders won't exactly break the bank with his rookie contract. His deal is expected to be worth roughly $4.6 million over the next four years.
While at rookie minicamp this Saturday afternoon, Sanders was asked if he'll consider purchasing the No. 2 from Browns wide receiver DeAndre Carter. His answer was quite telling.
Sanders let the Cleveland media that he's in no rush to spend money from his rookie deal.
"I’m not tryna buy anything," Sanders told reporters. "My signing bonus ain’t that high right now."
That's a smart move on Sanders' part. If he earns a second contract in the NFL, he'll have more than enough to splurge on something nice.
For now, Sanders is focused on being the best possible quarterback he can be for the Browns.
"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity," Sanders said. "I don't ever focus on the negative or even think about the negative. I've just got to prove and show what I'm capable of. What fuels me is my purpose in life and understanding the route that we're going to have to take. Understanding that I was able to get an opportunity when a lot of people didn't want to give me an opportunity. So that's what I'm truly thankful for."
We can't wait to see how Sanders performs this offseason.
