Shedeur Sanders’ Reaction to Shilo’s Browns Remark Draws Attention

Shedeur Sanders entered the NFL offseason ready for a quarterback battle with Deshaun Watson as Todd Monken looked for the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback for the 2026 season. Sanders had played in eight games for the Browns, including seven starts, in the 2025 NFL season, while Watson was returning from an Achilles tendon injury that ruled him out for the entire 2025 campaign.

Watson and Sanders possessed all the qualities to make up a fascinating quarterback battle as we had the youth of Sanders on one side and the experience of Watson on the other. The battle didn’t fail to impress as both quarterbacks gave it their all to convince Monken to name them the starter for the season.

While Sanders started well during training camp, it was Watson who finished stronger. This earned him the starting quarterback role for the Browns’ first preseason game against the Chicago Bears. Watson showed his class, throwing for 126 yards, whereas Sanders struggled.

Sanders got the opportunity to start against the Buffalo Bills in the Browns’ second preseason game. The former Colorado quarterback bounced back, throwing for 74 yards, including one touchdown. However, it wasn’t enough, as Monken named Watson the starter after the Bills game. Taylen Green also made the active roster and Dillon Gabriel was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return.

Following the Browns’ decision to name Watson the starter and Sanders the backup, Shedeur’s brother, Shilo Sanders, took a sarcastic jab at him during a video call, saying, “Congratulations, Shedeur. You made it through preseason without getting cut. Yes, sir.”

Sanders could be seen being caught off guard by that comment and looked somewhat annoyed by it. But it’s nothing serious, as this sort of banter is common in the Sanders family.

Sanders is currently sharing scout-team reps with Green as the Browns gear up to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in their first regular-season game on September 13. The game will be played in Jacksonville.
