With just one tackle, the air was sucked out of the New York Giants. Well, let’s take that further. The air was sucked out of one of the most upbeat stories to be introduced into the NFL this year. As Cameron Skattebo was tackled, his foot/ankle was bent in a way you wish you never saw.
And just like that, Skattebo was carted off the field in an air cast. There is little to no chance that the rookie running back will return this season. This is not official (yet), but you do not need a medical background to know that his rookie season is over.
Although it is way too early for this, after watching the brutality of the injury, many will wonder how he can return to the NFL and be effective.
Official Skattebo injury update: The current status is listed as “Out for the game with ankle injury” as reported on NFL Red Zone at 2:50 p.m.
Game update: Eagles lead 21-10 at halftime.
Very classy from Eagles fans, giving Cam Skattebo a standing ovation as he has taken off on a cart to the locker room after a gruesome injury. He gave a thumbs up to the crowd pic.twitter.com/qBF9fBf60P

The play was not a late hit. The play was not a cheap shot. The play was rather non-descript, as Skattebo received a short pass (that was dropped) from Jaxson Dart and was tackled. In fact, the normal Skattebo fight for extra yardage was not even a factor in this play.
Skattebo was tackled, and his foot/ankle turned in a way that looked worse than a person in a car accident. The brutality of football right in front of our eyes on a clear, sunny afternoon in Philadelphia.
He will now spend his days in rehab. His team will try to carry on the momentum he brought to the Giants, including their 34-17 signature win just over the same Eagles on Thursday Night Football just two weeks ago.
Based on prior comments, if anyone was made for the rehab that will come, it is Skattebo. In several interviews, he has discussed his toughness as a byproduct of being beaten up by his older brother when he was young. And, he was not kidding or exaggerating. He sees his toughness as a source of pride: “Physicality is definitely contagious. If someone gets run over, it hypes the other guys up and it gets them going. I’m going to continue to bring that and hopefully it feeds off onto my teammates.”
