The Denver Broncos are one win away from returning to the Super Bowl, 10 years after their most recent trip to the championship game. The Broncos dominated the Carolina Panthers to win Super Bowl 50, sending Peyton Manning to a happy retirement.
Fittingly, on Sunday they will clash with the same opponent they faced to advance to that Super Bowl, the New England Patriots. Denver secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC, which granted them home-field advantage for this matchup.
The Patriots were under heavy scrutiny due to the strength of their schedule. They went 14-3 to finish second in the AFC standings. They proved doubters wrong in the playoffs, but the Broncos are now on the receiving end of criticism for the same reason.
Cerrone Battle of 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston sent a message to the fans who realized that the Broncos had a schedule that’s even easier than the Patriots. Specifically, Battle noted that they played a lot of backup quarterbacks, even when they faced 11-win teams such as the Los Angeles Chargers (Trey Lance) and the Houston Texans (David Mills).
Folks are finding out the Broncos schedule was as weak as the Patriots but it was vs a lot of backups. Yes they beat 11 win Chargers and Texans but they had backups in. 2/3 of their schedule was against these guys….yeah. I have never seen 19 in KC before in my life. pic.twitter.com/dg3lK61SK3

They beat Geno Smith twice, one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL in 2025 . The list also included struggling playmakers such as Justin Fields and rookie Cam Ward. They also beat backups such as the Bengals’ Jake Browning, the Commanders’ Marcus Mariota and the Chiefs’ Chris Oladokun.
The Broncos moved past a solid opponent in the divisional round, ending Josh Allen’s season with a dramatic overtime win. The Patriots will be their biggest challenge to date, more so after Bo Nix went down with a season-ending injury.
