Steelers' Aaron Rodgers discusses relationship with Packers' Jordan Love ahead of 'SNF' clash

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love made it known he still has "a great relationship" with former mentor and current Pittsburgh Steelers starter Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers also spoke fondly of Love ahead of the upcoming "Sunday Night Football" clash between the two clubs that will take place at Pittsburgh's Acrisure Stadium.

Aaron Rodgers enjoyed mentoring Jordan Love for several seasons

"I texted with him last week because they had played a couple common opponents," Rodgers said about Love, per Jim Wexell of the Steelers' website. "He's a great kid, man. He really is. I enjoyed my time with him. I'm not surprised by how he's playing; he's playing great. His progression was like mine, kind of, where the first year you get your feet wet; second year you feel a little bit more confident. By the time the third year comes around, you're ready to play."

Rodgers was comfortably atop the Packers' depth chart when they made Love a 2020 first-round draft pick. Rodgers later signed a massive extension with the Packers in March 2022, and Love has repeatedly spoken about how beneficial it was to sit and learn behind the future Hall of Famer up until Green Bay traded Rodgers to the New York Jets in the spring of 2023.

"Really happy for him," Rodgers said about the success Love has enjoyed as Green Bay's QB1. "He's one of the real good guys in the league. I'm sure his leadership is continuing to grow over there. I like the way he's playing. He's super accurate, he's taking care of the football, he's being opportunistic, making great throws down the field, and using his legs as well."

Aaron Rodgers addresses viral Broderick Jones moment

Rodgers became part of a viral moment during Pittsburgh's Oct. 16 game at the Cincinnati Bengals when he was taken to the ground by left tackle Broderick Jones as the signal-caller celebrated completing a 68-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of that contest. Earlier in the week, Jones insisted the two were "still joking about" that tackle.

"I texted him," Rodgers said about Jones. "I said, 'Hey, man, I love your energy. I love everything you're about. But also, I'm 41, OK? You can't be out there tackling me like that.' But I love Brod. We had a couple laughs about it, and I told him I'm getting him next. He better watch his back."

As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had the 4-2 Steelers as 3.5-point home underdogs for this Sunday's matchup versus the 4-1-1 Packers. Perhaps Rodgers will get a bit of revenge on Jones if Pittsburgh earns an upset victory in front of a prime-time audience.
