Steelers Fans Get Great News On Aaron Rodgers As Signing Could Come 'Pretty Shortly'

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made life fairly difficult on the fan base as the organization is playing the waiting game when it comes to its starting quarterback for the 2025 season. The top target is Aaron Rodgers, which has been known for roughly two months. The veteran is taking his time making a decision, and it doesn't seem like the franchise has any sort of timeline as to when he might decide to sign in Pittsburgh. Important offseason events are quickly coming up, and the fan base would like to see Rodgers in the black and gold by the time mandatory minicamp rolls around on June 10th.

There is no reason to think that Rodgers won't end up being the quarterback for the Steelers in 2025. He is also weighing the possibility of retirement, but nearly every sign points to him playing in 2025. He already took part in a throwing session with newly-acquired wide receiver DK Metcalf, and the quarterback took an extensive visit to the facility in Pittsburgh, which reportedly went great.

Rodgers' former head coach, Matt LaFleur, recently spoke to Chris Simms on Chris Simms Unbuttoned, and the LaFleur was asked about Rodgers signing in Pittsburgh.

"I’m anticipating that happening, so I won’t be surprised.” LaFleur said. “I just can’t see him not playing the game of football this year, and that obviously makes the most sense. I just know in our discussions over the years, he’s a guy that he’s had as much respect for as anybody, a guy like Mike Tomlin. I could certainly see that coming to fruition here pretty shortly.”

LaFleur was the head coach of the Packers for four seasons while Rodgers was the team's starting quarterback. The two sides eventually parted ways, but the player and coach had a decent relationship for most of that time. LaFleur stated that he knows the amount of respect that Rodgers has for Mike Tomlin, which is likely a driving force for the quarterback to continue his playing career in Pittsburgh.

The topic of Rodgers came up because the Steelers and the Packers are set to clash in Week 8 on Sunday Night Football. If Rodgers joins the Steelers, this will be the first time he will be taking on the Packers. There shouldn't be much animosity between the quarterback and the Packers. The two sides had a great relationship with one another, but eventually, it ran its course.

LaFleur said he could see Rodgers joining the Steelers happening in the near future, which likely means before mandatory minicamp kicks off on June 10th. This would be ideal as Rodgers can begin to gel with his new teammates, and he can also get into the playbook ahead of training camp.

Steelers Continue To Apply The Band-Aid At The Quarterback Position

In 2024 it was Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, and in 2025 it is expected to be Rodgers. The veteran is either going to retire after the 2025 season, or play elsewhere. It is very unlikely that he will sign a two-year deal in Pittsburgh, which shows that the Steelers are just attempting to fix their quarterback room year in, and year out. The room has completely turned over for the second season in a row, which is not a way to build a successful team.

The 2026 NFL Draft is being hosted in Pittsburgh, and the Steelers are expected to hold 12 picks in the event. It should be expected that the organization will be in position to draft a starting-caliber quarterback who could hopefully be a franchise player. It is not out of the question that the Steelers finish with a bottom-half of the league record in 2025, and the extra draft capital could be used to shoot up the draft board.
