Steelers Find Out Alarming Confession On Broderick Jones' Future

There’s no doubt that the Pittsburgh Steelers can sense the situation with Broderick Jones trending in a bad direction. It seems like every update regarding Jones has left fans and pundits even more confused or concerned. Jones was selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and GM Omar Khan traded up to make a statement and land him. Unfortunately, Jones has remained a project, and Mike Tomlin and his staff weren't able to fully develop him into the player they hoped he would become.

Now with James Campen and Mike McCarthy in town, the optimism is much greater, as the two have worked together to field some highly respected offensive lines throughout their careers. That said, Jones had started improving in different areas and appeared to be making strong progress during the 2025 season before suffering a strange injury. 

In a late-November game, Jones suffered a season-ending neck injury in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears. Jones underwent spinal fusion surgery, but unfortunately suffered a setback in April. The Steelers have remained pretty hush-hush about what’s truly going on, and it seems like Jones is working hard to do all the right things to get back on the field. Jeff Hathhorn revealed via the 93.7 The Fan Morning Show that after speaking with Jones, he has a very real concern. Hathhorn knows how Jones normally carries himself, and the vibe he got from the young lineman raised major concerns.

"We talked to Broderick Jones, and he's lost a bunch of weight," Hathhorn said during his time appearing on 93.7 The Fan. "I asked him about the emotions of dealing with this and he kind of paused for a second and you could feel it. Like man, I was kind of a happy-go-lucky dude, and [now] I don't know what my future is."

The Steelers are still hopeful Jones can eventually return to the field, but the uncertainty surrounding his recovery has undeniably created concern both inside and outside the organization. Pittsburgh invested heavily in Jones when they traded up to draft him, and with a new offensive coaching staff now in place, the franchise is hoping he can still develop into the cornerstone tackle they envisioned. 

Until Jones is able to fully recover and get back on the field, however, questions about his future are only going to continue to grow.

The other major concern from this latest update is that Jones has lost a significant amount of weight. This isn’t the first time Jones has returned lighter, but this time he appears to be even smaller. He played at around 311 pounds during the 2025 NFL season before suffering the injury, and now many Steelers fans are curious just how much weight he has lost.

Either way, it’s not a good sign, and it seems like Jones still has multiple roadblocks to overcome before he can finally return to the field. He will continue working to make that happen, but the uncertainty surrounding his future is clearly growing. The Steelers are remaining patient for now, though concern from both fans and analysts continue to increase with every new update. Pittsburgh's brass also made the decision not to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option. That decision was also pretty telling regarding the seriousness of Jones’ injury situation.
