LB T.J. Watt suffered a gruesome injury in the Steelers Week 5 matchup against the Ravens and his description of it is not for the faint of heart.
Watt dislocated his left pinkie finger on the seventh or eighth play of the game and popped it back in, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor. He said he realized how bad it was when he took off his glove and his pinky was "the size of a hamburger patty."
Watt proved his toughness once again by finishing the game in dominant fashion, recording two sacks, two quarterback hits, two tackles for a loss, two passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
Even after Pittsburgh's Week 6 bye, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year still leads the league in sacks (8) and is surely looking to continue building on his campaign for his second DPOY on Sunday when the team faces the Rams (3-3).
However, some were worried he wouldn't be able to suit up after not practicing on Thursday due to a heel injury. Watt has since commented on his recent appearance on the injury report and said it was minor and that he "feels great."
It's certainly great news as the Steelers will need him against one of the best pass attacks in the NFL. Los Angeles is averaging the sixth most passing yards per game (258.8) in the league and has only looked more explosive with All-Pro WR Cooper Kupp back in the lineup.
But having a pass-heavy offense isn't always a good thing. QB Matthew Stafford is fifth in passing attempts, per Statmuse, which means Watt will have plenty of opportunities to have a big game and maybe even become the first player to reach 10+ sacks on the season.
