Steelers Lost Another Potential Trade Target After Week 4

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to get healthy in the bye week, but they most likely won't have a completely clean bill of health by Week 6. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey and wide receiver Calvin Austin III are both expected to miss time with injuries they suffered in their Week 4 win in Ireland. General Manager Omar Khan has been in the trade market for another wideout throughout the 2025 calendar year, and this latest injury emphasizes the need to improve at that position. The bye week is a good time to get a deal done.

However, potential trade targets keep flying off the table. It happened on Monday Night Football when Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome injury that will most likely cost him the rest of the 2025 season. It also happened on Sunday Night Football, although it luckily was not because of something terrible happening. Instead, it was an amazing performance that may urge the team to keep their wideout and take him off the trade block.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently reported on how the Green Bay Packers no longer have a desire to ship off receiver Romeo Doubs after his latest primetime performance.

"Romeo Doubs has emerged as the Packers' No. 1 receiving option in a contract year," Fowler explained. "The trade rumors surrounding Doubs, who has four touchdowns through four games, never made much sense. That conversation was understandable last season, when the team suspended Doubs for one game for missing practices for personal reasons. But the Packers have shown no interest in trading him, and my sense is they have more interest in potentially extending him."

Doubs seemed to be upset with where he was projected to be on the depth chart, especially after the Packers drafted two wideouts in the 2025 NFL Draft, including one in the first round. That's where the rumors came from, as the former undrafted free agent wanted to be more than just a depth piece. It seemed like he could get more playing time in Pittsburgh than in Green Bay.

However, his electric game on Sunday Night Football squashed any rumor of him leaving or being unsatisfied. Doubs hauled in six receptions for 58 yards and three touchdowns. The only player who had more yards than him in the air was running back Josh Jacobs. If it wasn't for him, the Packers most likely lose by multiple possessions instead of tying. It's not good that they didn't win, but none of it was Doubs' fault.

Between that and Fowler's latest report, it looks like Doubs will be staying in Wisconsin for at least a couple more seasons. If Khan had been calling up the Packers to ask for his availability, they have most likely hung up the phone as they work on a contract extension to reward the former undrafted free agent for all his hard work and being a big-time player for a team that desperately needs one.

Steelers May Hold Off On Trading For Players Entirely

The options for the Steelers are thinning out. With that, combined with them admitting to being in the pick business, they could just shut the phones down and wait to see how things play out. Maybe Roman Wilson can take advantage of seeing more snaps and can finally establish himself as a quality option. Maybe they lean into the run game more after their latest success. They may not be able to get Doubs anymore, but they can still develop the offense from within.
