Steelers WR Has Never Been So Important

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ need for a wide receiver has reached a new level. The organization has limited time remaining before the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline passes and multiple positions to upgrade and improve before then.

No position is more important for the Steelers to address before the deadline than wide receiver.

Do It For Rodgers

Another wide receiver would be the best gift the Steelers could give to starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The 41-year-old has performed admirably in his 21st NFL season, giving the Steelers the best quarterback play they’ve seen since Ben Roethlisberger retired.

Rodgers has played well despite the offensive makeup, not because of it. The offensive line has improved as the season’s gone on, but that can’t be said of the skill positions. The running back tandem of Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell can do enough to keep the run game going, but their passing game is incomplete. That will remain so until they add another weapon on the outside.

Zero In on the Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders could be a one-stop shop for the Steelers to address multiple roster holes. The organization has multiple players expected to be moved before the deadline, and several of them would be excellent additions to the Steelers. Las Vegas second-year lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson has been linked to the team as a possible addition to their offensive line depth.

The most important trade target, however, is veteran pass-catcher Jakobi Meyers. The 28-year-old receiver has over 300 receiving yards this season and is coming off his first 1,000-yard campaign last season. The 6’2” receiver is another big-bodied target for Rodgers to go to.

The possible acquisition of Meyers would form a dynamic trio of receivers with DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin III filling out their aerial attack.

Plenty of Veteran Options

If Meyers doesn’t pan out, the Steelers have plenty of other veteran options to pursue. The New Orleans Saints have been a commonly linked trade partner for the Steelers and the rest of the league. Their pass-catching duo of Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed could both be on the move, and the Steelers would love to land either for the right price.

Tennessee Titans veteran Calvin Ridle is another option to monitor. The 30-year-old has struggled to remain part of the plan in Tennesee, but he’s a sure-handed receiver who could fit smoothly into the Steelers’ offensive plans.

At this point, as long as the Steelers don’t settle for just signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the active roster, they are adding improvements to their offense. The organization needs more talent to truly compete in the postseason, and that has never been more apparent than after their Week 9 victory.
