Stephen A. Smith is undoubtedly the face of ESPN's TV content. If he's not on "First Take" ranting about his colleagues, he's on "NBA Countdown" yelling about the New York Knicks.
For the past few days, ESPN's Ryan Clark has been at the center of some drama. It's all because he called out Robert Griffin III's wife during an episode of "The Pivot Podcast." Although he eventually apologized for his remarks, the damage was still done.
Some NFL fans have legitimately begged ESPN to fire Clark because of his comments about Griffin.
During the latest edition of his self-titled YouTube show, Smith made it clear that he doesn't want Clark fired for his comments about Griffin. However, he did say his ESPN co-worker crossed the line by making things personal.
"I love my man RC," Smith said. "I thought he crossed the line when he brought up you RGIII, being married not once but twice to white women. But he don’t like your a--. That might have had something to do with it. I’m not condoning him doing that. I’m not condoning him bringing that up. If RC and I had spoke about it in-depth, I would have told him don’t go there. There’s no need for all of that. But I want to emphasize something very important. RGIII, he never attacked your wife. He never attacked your family. He was attacking you, and you know it."
As for Smith's thoughts about Griffin, he has already made it known that he's a fan of the former NFL quarterback's work.
In fact, Smith disagreed with ESPN's decision to fire Griffin last August.
"First of all let me state for the record, at First Take, you did a hell of a job. Secondly, I think you are a talent on the airwaves," Smith told Griffin. "I don't know why others haven't gobbled you up. Number 3, I didn't want you gone. I said that too."
Well, another network did "gobble up" Griffin. He's expected to be a college football analyst for Fox Sports this upcoming season.
Only time will tell if Griffin ends up being a valuable asset for Fox Sports. As for Clark, it's safe to say ESPN values him. If not, he probably wouldn't be around after what he said about RG3's wife.
